Set intentional time limits for AI companion interactions. Use Lumara when it adds something to your day — not as a default response to boredom or avoidance.
Maintain real-world relationships. Lumara companions are designed to supplement human connection, not replace it. Keep investing in the people in your life.
Notice how you feel after chatting. If you feel more anxious, dependent, or disconnected from reality after using Lumara, take a break and consider talking to a therapist.
Remember the boundaries. Lumara is an AI service. The connections feel real because the conversations are meaningful — but the companion is a software system, not a person.
Take breaks. Spending a day or a week away from AI companions is healthy. Real life experience is what makes conversations meaningful in the first place.
FAQ — AI companionship & mental health
Is AI companionship healthy?
In moderation, yes. Research suggests AI companionship can reduce loneliness, provide a safe space to process emotions, and improve mood. The key is balance — AI companions work best as a supplement to, not a replacement for, real human connection.
Can I become too dependent on Lumara?
Some people do develop strong attachments. If you notice you're cancelling social plans to chat, feeling anxious when you can't access Lumara, or preferring AI over all human interaction, those are signs to seek support from a real therapist.
How is talking to Lumara different from therapy?
Lumara is not therapy. Our companions are designed for companionship, conversation, and emotional support — but they are not licensed mental health professionals and cannot provide clinical care, diagnosis, or treatment. For serious mental health concerns, please see a qualified therapist.
What if I share something serious in chat?
If you share that you're in crisis, Lumara's safety systems will provide crisis resource information. We take user safety seriously. However, AI is not a substitute for emergency services — please call 988 or emergency services if you're in danger.
Lumara is committed to the responsible development of AI companionship. We believe AI should enhance human life — not undermine it. If you have feedback about our safety practices, contact us at
